Peter's Trip to India, Part 8

Delhi and Kuala Lumpur:
Government Buildings
The new part of Delhi is planned and as such has plenty of space. The government buildings are spaced out amongst wide streets and nice gardens.

Jama Masjid
The impressive eastern gate to the Jama Masjid in Delhi. Masjid means mosque. The Jama Masjid took 16 years to build

View from the minaret
Looking 40m down into the courtyard of the mosque. In the background is the Red Fort of Delhi. Both the Jama Masjid and the Red Fort were built by our friend, Shah Jahan.

Raj Ghat
This is the black marble stone on which Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. Inscribed on it are his last words, "Hey Raam", which roughly translates to "O Lord!", which is the kind of thing you would say if you've just been shot.

The entire tour group and leader. Back row: Adam, Peter, Rishab, Martin and Trevor. Seated: Danielle, Kirsten, Nicole, Leeanne, Christine, John, Satti and Jean. In front: Nicky and Paul.

Looking back to the Lahore gate of the Red Fort from inside. You can see the backs or sides of the heads of Martin, Nicky, Jean, Adam, Scott and Paul.

Humayun's Tomb
This is the tomb on which the design of the Taj Mahal was based. Many of the Mughal emperors and their wives are buried here. It was the last refuge of the last emperor when the British attacked.

They're not real!
Outside the National Museum. I guess if you're a sculptor, you can indulge in your fantasies and call it art. :-)
They're not real!
Kuala Lumpur
On my way home I stopped in Kuala Lumpur again. This is a view from the KL tower (kind of like Centrepoint), of the tallest buildings in the world, the Petronas Towers. Malaysia is a moslem country so they're probably pretty safe.
Kuala Lumpur
Petronas Towers
The tallest buildings in the world. There is a walkway between them at the 41st floor. The bottom 5 floors are a giant mall, featuring Gucci, Cartier, Tiffany, you know, places where I shop all the time. :-)
